Unit 41 Application of post production techniques VIDEO AND AUDIO

Here i have changed the opacity of the clip. To fade the opening shot in from black and also to august the brightness. I decided to make the shot a bit darker than the original footage so it fitted in well with the other shots of the film. I did tho by inserting key frames and starting with the opacity low and putting another key frame with a higher opacity to increase the brightness.

Here i am adjusting the brightness of the shot, partly to disguise the face of the interviewee and to make the shot fit with the others more seamlessly to create the desired effect. i did this by putting key frames in a different points and raising the opacity for lighter effects and lowering for darker effects.

I Also decided to ajust the opacity on the title which i had on the opening shot. I did this so the title could fade into the shot after the train had past. By using key frames i was able to control the opacity. The first screenshot shows hoe i have placed a keyframe at the very beginning which has set the opacity of the title to 0.0% which means the title is not visible

After this I moved the arrow head along roughly 3 seconds. At this point i set the opacity to 100% using the key frames. This gave me the desired effect of the title gradually fading in and i was happy with the result afterwards

AUDIO POST PRODUCTION

Her i was editing audio out of necessity. The clip that I was using had interrupted audio because of the subject of the interview moving which moved the microphone and created un wanted feedback which was a lot loader than the audio in the rest of the clip. The content of the clip was good and i was happy with what he said but the quality was not good.  I decided to turn the volume down at the point the microphone was moved. I turned the level down to -7.3 dB which meant it was a lot quieter and the sound wasn't audible and didn't ruin the clip.

Then i needed to bring the volume up again because it would have been to quite to keep the whole clip at -7.3dB so I set the volume up to 2.4dB  roughly 3 seconds later so the volume  of clip didnt change to suddenly. It needed to be gradual so that the clip had a better continuity and didn't sound poorley recorded.

I Also wanted to add music to my Documentary. This meant I had to have it in the background with the audio i had recorded over the top. I realised that i couldn't come straight in with the music at its highest volume level and keep it the same because that over powered the varying levels of audio I had recorded in the interviews. I decided i needed to use key frames to just the level whilst audio was over the top

This shows how i layered audio clips over a longer music clip. A5 is the music audio. I chose to use 'Demastas- Feel No Quilt. All the audio in the screen shot is in the final cut and is audible.

This screen shot shows how i have changed the level of the audio of the music track at different point s using key frames. It started low at -21.2dB and I changed the levels in keeping with the levels of the dialog at selected points of the documentary.

Unit 41 Recce Report

Location 1- Interview with QUIR
Norwich, Under a bridge by a river and train line

Location on Map

Description of Location

A small slope under a bridge. Solid ground with some concrete slabs which are useful for placing tripods on. There are flat areas which will be where the interviewee (Quir) will be able to sit.
The accessibility is reasonably easy. acces is through a public open space and along the river. Ideally shouldn't be accessed when dark because the river could cause a hazard. Bringing a torch is recommended incase filming continues on late.
The lighting is quite limited because of the dense coverage by trees and bushes but the arch of the bridge creates a lighting effect which acts to highlight the interviewee whilst keeping the rest of the shot relativly dark. This is desirable because of the effect that is hoping to be achieved
Sound recording could be an issue because of the the neighbouring train track and the sound oftrains coming past. This could drown out some of the audio. Although getting an audio sample of the trains could be usefull for other parts of the soundtrack of the film.

Location 2- interview with Big
Cambridge, Mill Road, warehouse
Location On Map
Discription of Location
The location is on Mill Road Cambridge in a warehouse we have achieved permission to film in. so accesablity is not an issue. there is a window and 2 shutters. With these closed the place is completely dark. Raising the shutters brings light into the warehouse. Opened half way the lighting will achieve a silhouette effect on the interviewee (BIG) which is a desired effect because the subject wants to remain anonymous. There is a small table which is ideal for the subject to sit on. Also the background of the shot there is graffiti which is suited to the subject topic. Sound recording may be an issue because there is a slight echo in the warehouse. To make sure there is no detrimental effect on the audio recording a sample audio should be recorded. Movement of filmers and miscellaneous sounds should be kept to a minimum because the sound is amplified.
